Education Committee
To enhance the level of professional knowledge available to members through the sponsorship of educational courses of relevance to the Association’s membership. To encourage participation in the programs of the Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI) for attaining professional certification.
Specific Duties:
The education chair will meet with the president, other officers and the executive director to determine a direction for educational activities.
The executive director will assist the Education Committee as directed by the Education Committee Chair.
An analysis of the student needs will be undertaken by the Education Chair, using the executive director to provide information where necessary. Plans for future courses will then be determined by the Education Committee for a period of twelve to eighteen months based on the information available. The executive director will provide communication to all of the students indicating availability and location of the courses as determinations are made.
Instructors for each of the courses shall be recruited by the Education Committee using a predetermined set of standards as established by the Education Committee. Remuneration for the instructors shall be based on the income generate from the courses. Combining the income from all of the courses in order to obtain the highest qualified instructors shall be a decision recommended to the President by the Education Committee.
The facilities for each course shall be selected by the Education Committee and/or the executive director.
The number of books to be obtained for each course shall be determined by the Education Committee and provided to the executive director. The executive director will obtain the books from BOMI bringing them to the first class and other classes thereafter where necessary so that a reconciliation of the payments from the students with the actual delivery of the books can be maintained. Unused books shall be returned by the executive director to BOMI after the Education Committee feels that there are no more students that will be attending.
Registration information and information relating to the identification of all students shall be maintained by the executive director and forwarded to BOMI. A list of all registered students shall be provided to the Education Committee by the executive director on a weekly basis prior to the beginning of each course. A final listing after the courses have started will be updated by the executive director and forwarded to BOMI. Sixty days prior to the start of each class, the executive director shall obtain the instructors manual and other materials from BOMI to be sent to the instructor.
The Education Committee will determine programs to encourage participation and direct the executive director in providing communications to existing and potential students. Use of the BOMA Newsletter shall be augmented by direct mailings to potential students to increase attendance in the courses. All written communication will be approved by the committee prior to mailing.
A location for the examination shall be determined and approved by the Education Committee Chair and BAE. The Education Chair and BAE will select a proctor.
Prepare annual income/expense budget.
Submits committee report each month for inclusion in monthly Board of Directors agenda mailing.
